This week we covered what felt like the entire state of Florida.

We watched a NASA space telescope launch from Merritt Island. We took a ferry to Deerfield Island Park and witnessed a habitat restoration. We saw rehabilitating sea turtles at Gumbo Limbo in Boca Raton and Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach. We got soaked standing next to the blowholes at Blowing Rocks Preserve in Jupiter.

We watched dolphins splash in the ocean, listened to a symphony of fiddler crabs, identified countless birds, and ran up and down several local beaches.

It was an epic trip.

And all of those things were free.

Having kids is expensive.

But finding wonder doesn’t have to be.

At Nahlo, we believe in Literacy Through Experience, and finding wonder is a core part of it.

When kids witness something incredible, they have a reason to write.

When they wonder about the world, they have a reason to ask questions, and then read to find out more.

The internet is filled with people who will tell you that if you want to make a core memory with your kids, you need to take them somewhere epic, and usually spend an astronomical amount of money to do it.

But wonder can be found all around us.

And usually, it costs us nothing but our time.
